Description

In this lesson, SS are going to learn and practice new vocabulary (you're looking well,you haven't changed a bit, you were going to, that didn't work out, the last time I saw you, did you ever, I remember you..) in the context of catching up. SS will be shown pictures to set lesson context and will be given questions from ex.1to discuss in order to create ss interest for listening. They will do listening for main idea and for details and practice fluency speaking in the context of catching up.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of catching up using the vocabulary "you're looking well,you haven't changed a bit, you were going to, that didn't work out, the last time I saw you, did you ever, I remember you".

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of catching up.
  • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary (you're looking well,you haven't changed a bit, you were going to, that didn't work out, the last time I saw you, did you ever, I remember you..) in the context of catching up

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T shows SS pictures from university reunion or school reunion to elicit the word reunion from SS. If SS can't answer correctly SS read the beginning of the email. Then the T divides SS into 2 groups, group A and group B. T asks SS from group A to come to the board and stand in line, then T asks SS from group B to stand infront of the SS from group A. T gives instructions: When I say "move", take one step to the right, so you can stand infront of other student. SS discuss the questions from ex.1 in pairs, moving clockwise.

Exposure/Listening for the main idea (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

T shows the pictures of Iqbal and Carolina and SS predict the answer for Ex.3a before listening. SS listen to the tapescript 1.51, to check if their guesses were right or wrong and discuss the answer of the question in ex.2 in the groups, then students change their partner, so they can compare their anwers. T gives out the answer-key.

Useful Language.Listening for details. (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

SS listen to the track again and marks the sentences C for Carolina and I for Iqbal. T writes the answers on the board. Then SS do ex.3a where they write a word to remember the expressions. It can be your friends name e.g. You are looking well (Ramilya). because she always dresses well and looks elegant. When I think about Ramilya I memorise this expression. SS work alone. SS compare their answers with their partners. then they change their partner.

Productive Task(s) (12-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T gives instructions and gives out HO. Asks ICQs.What are you doing? SS fill in the gaps and work in pairs to make a dialogue about old friends' reunion (catching up old friends). Then T changes their partners, gives instructions and gives out HO.SS work in pairs and talk about their old friend they've met recently.
