Description

In this leson students will learn about the past perfect, positive regular and irregular verbs through personal examples. The lesson will start off with the teacher giving some examples of things that have happened to her yesterday. This will be a spring board to the lesson as he/she has just read the text from the previous lesson and will ask question to receive answers in past perfect form. The students will fill in the gaps connecting receptive to productive skills. There will be a brief grammar session on past perfect graph. This will be followed by some exercises and role play activities .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set langage students with the topic

Procedure: I'm going to ask the Sts 3 questions from the text they had read in the previous lesson. Give 1 min to the students to discuss in pairs. Write down the answer of question number 2. Q. Where had he begun his motor bike journey? He had begun his motorbike journey when he was at Miami. Draw a graph on the board and gıve more examples and explaın the past perfect grammar. Explain the past perfect through the graph by drawing it on the board

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I will explain on the board the grammar by drawing a graph of grammar tense past perfect and illustrate the answers of the previous asked questions and explain past perfect. ask them as concept checking question. Have they ever traveled? What happened when they had traveled?

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students target language.

Students have to fill in the city according to the action take place at from the HO. Exercise number 2. Allow students to find out which sentences are in past perfect. Discuss with them and ask concept questions. 1. Was he in Miami when he had bought the car? Yes 2. Did he dream of crossing before going to Miami? Before 2.Was he working before going to Miami? yes

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Distribute hand out and they have to complete the sentences with their imaginations using past perfect tense. Pair work They will change their partner and check their answers.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Students A will be given a different fill in the blank but same text then student B . After the task is done Sts. swap partners and check their answers . pairs with student A and students B

Language Analysis free practice (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Students now tell their partner a journey they have been on when was is and where. using the tense. If I have time Students will write down a puzzle . Asking questions to find out what had happen and complete the puzzle. Students then write sentences uses the same pattern including the agent and age at that time. teacher goes around and monitors.
