Unit 5A Grammar 1-3

Materials

Abc Straight Forward Preintermediate.

Main Aims

  • Ss will be asked to review grammar (future). "going to + infinitive", present continuos for future, "will + infinitive" is going to be discussed.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Sub aim is speaking for Exercise 2 and 3. Examples, "useful language" should be used to do exercise 1.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

There wil be a time reference on the WB (present, future). Ss will be asked to "stick" one of the present progressive expressions (is going to bring, are coming, is going to build, are meeting) to the appropriate time. Note: There will also be a trick time (the current moment and future).

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ss will be broken to pairs. Model example will be done. They will be asked to complete task (exercise 1). A further example Useful language will be on a HO as well as jumbled words. PW and Exercise 1 (Unjumbling)

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Teacher will correct with the SS, or call on a student, and correct the expressions. Ss will be explained that present continuous can be used to talk about the future if it is a plan-something that they have agreed on, or something fixed. Further, the word "will" will be introduced. Ex. Will + infinitive Review Ex 1 unscrambled.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Groups again will be broken up. Ss will be asked to write 2 sentences. "what they're going to do on the weekend?" "When will you study?" New pw. Ss will be asked to say the example of their partner.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will be asked to go into pairs. They will decide about a favorite city. Ex. We're going to build a new airport.
