Description

In this lesson, we'll listen to a song and fill in the gaps according to the song. We'll match sentences and order them. We will also add one sentence to the song. Hopefully by the end of the lesson we'll at least be singing the chorus part.

Main Aims

  • To provide students practice for listening for gist and listening for specific information

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students some practice with Simple Past tense and practice in writing a sentence

Procedure

Lead-In (4-5 minutes) • To warm the students and introduce the new vocabulary

*T greets the Ss *T talks about a story of her parents and how they always stood by her. *T asks if they have someone in their life lke that. *T gets Ss into pairs and they speak.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the new vocabulary

*T hangs pictures on the board *T elicits IF NOT T teaches using opposites *T drills *T asks Ss to complete a matching activity *T checks WC

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide practice in listening for gist

*T tells the Ss that they will be listening to a song and before she plays it they should try to guess what kind of a song it is and what's it about. *T play 20 sec. and stops. *T elicits the answer from the students

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide practice in listening for specific information

*T asks students to get into pairs *T asks Ss to listen to the song and try to match the sentences *T hands out the activity *T plays the song twice *T checks WC

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide practice in listening for specific information

*T asks hands out the activity and asks to change the verbs in the diagram into past. *T checks WC *T asks Ss to listen to the song and fill in the gaps *If Ss need T plays the song again *T asks pairs to check *T elicits the answers and write them on the board

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To provide practice in listening for specific information

*T asks Ss to listen to the song again and fill in the gaps *T plays the song twice *T asks Ss to get into pairs and check their answers *T checks WC *T hands out the full written version of the song

Free practice (4-4 minutes) • To provide students practice with writing a sentence

*T asks Ss to think one sentence they could add to the song Eg. "You were my sun when I needed light" *T asks students to get into groups and write the sentence *T elicits the sentences
