In this lesson , students will learn how to describe an experience and using adverbs to modify the verbs and give the sentence a dramatic meaning . They will learn the form of the sentence and the position of the adverbs . They will also practice the pronunciation and speaking while describing an experience

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the adverbs in the context of telling stories and describing experiences and how can adverbs modify the meaning of the sentence

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of the adverbs position in a sentence and how can different position of the adverb affects the meaning of the sentence
  • To provide fluency in describing experiences and telling stories

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in using adverbs correctly in describing experiences

I will start a lesson by telling a story about what happened to me before I came to lesson in which I used all of the target language in a context and let students do the brain storming of all the adverbs they know and ask them CCQ about it

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the adverbs through describing experiences or story telling

In this stage I will give the students a hand out of exercise 1 which talks about the meaning of the adverbs and how are they used in context. I will divide them into groups and let them decide on the meaning of each adverb in GW then let the whole class participate in dividing adverbs into categories

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the form of the sentence while using adverbs and how varying the position can affect the sentence .

I 'll write sentenes on the board and ask the students to think in pairs how can we change the position of the adverb and let them decide about the adverb position .

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the pronunciation of the adverb and the stressed syllable

Let the students listen to three sentences and stop after each one to let them practice saying and using the right intonation . drill the sentences

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for a speaking practice

student will be divided into two groups . They will be given two different paragraphs and let them read the text and answer the questions .

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice . student are using TL in context correctly

Students will decide where to put the adverbs and practice saying the text using adverbs in it .

Free Practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of speaking about their experiences

Students in pairs are free to talk about their attitudes in circumstances such as volcano or an earthquake using TL , Teacher will be monitoring , taking notes .
