Shopping Clothes

Description

In this lesson, students learn about clothes with realia and read a text about clothes. The lesson starts with elicitation of the words. This is followed by pronunciation of the words. After that, students match clothes pictures with words. Then students read the text and match paragraphs to the people. After that, they read the text again, match sentences to the people and discuss some questions related to the topic.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will come in the class with shopping bags. I will greet them and tell them I am coming from shopping and I bought something. I will show some of them and ask them what they are and elicit the word clothes.

Pre-Reading (12-14 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will show the clothes one by one by eliciting words. Then, I will give pronunciation of these words and show the stress on them by using my fingers. After that, I will divide the class into two and give them the words and pictures. They will match pictures to words in this pelmanism activity. jeans t-shirt trousers jumper jacket shoes tie trousers suit

While-Reading#1 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will give HO#1 and ask them to read the paragraphs and match them to the people. Make them check their answers in pairs and I will give WCFB.

While-Reading #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

I will ask Ss to read the paragraphs again and match sentences to the people. (HO#2) 1. goes shopping every weekend. 2. buyes clothes to look good at work. 3. likes reading about clothes. 4. doesn't spend very much on clothes. 5. doesn't have many pairs of shoes. 6. loves buying shoes. Firstly they will check their answers with their partners and then I will give WCFB.

Post-Reading (11-13 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will give some questions (HO#3) about the topic. They will work in mingle. They will ask questions each other and answer. 1 Do you like shopping for clothes? Why? Why not? 2 Which person from the text is similar to you? Why? 3 What's your favourite clothes shop? What do you usually buy there? 4 What was the last thing that you bought? 5 Who do you go shopping with?
