Teaching Practice 6
To provide specific information and gist listening practice using a text about Indian weddings in the context of a past time event.
To provide review and clarification of past time phrases in the context of Indian weddings.
Procedure (34-50 minutes)
The ss will be told that they will do a review of yesterdays lesson (the years). The class will all be put into 2 groups. The teacher will draw a line downwards in the middle of the WB. Left side is for A team, right is for B team. The teacher will describe the activity to the students. They will be asked to stand in line at their part of the WB facing the WB. They will write the year (numerically) that the teacher reads to them and then the next ss tries to write the next year until numbers are finished. The teacher will check the answer by reading out loud again. The teacher will also put stress where its needed on the number and give extra points to team who can say it correctly. The team with the most correct answers wins.
The teacher will show a powerpoint of a timeline. It will feature dates and sentence patterns with gaps for the students to fill them in. The teacher will ask CCQ's to check their understanding of timelines and set the context of the activity. Does anyone use Facebook? Do you look at peoples profile (similar word in 1L)? What does this line mean? Then, the teacher will tell them to look at the timeline and the given cutout words that are put on the corner of the WB and guess which words can be put in the gaps. They will be given 3 minutes of thinking and guessing time. The answers will be given WC. They will be asked if they know the meaning of these forms and if possible give additionals examples. The teacher will add their own sentences when required.
The teacher will describe the activity (fill in the gaps with appropiate past time phrases. This is an indiviual exercise to test which students has actually understood the usage of this form. The answers and FB will be given WC on the WB.
The vocabulary are: wedding, bride, groom, wedding anniversary. The teacher will show a picture on powerpoint about a Indian couple getting married. The student will try to guess the meaning of the words with the CCQ that they will be asked and the visual support given with the picture.
The students will listen to a dialogue about a man named Rijjat and his wedding anniversary. After listening they will do an exercise regarding choosing the correct statement made in the dialogue. They will have to circle the correct answer. WCFB will be given after this exercise is finished.
The students will re-listen the dialogue and do the second exercise which is about answering the question written in the exercise in regards to the dialogue. WCFB will be given when the exercise is finished. Detail information regarding the answers will also be given.
This will be a semi-controlled discussion comparing "Indian Weddings" to "Turkish Weddings". The context is limited to only "weddings" so they will be allowed to speak as much as they can.
