Description

In this lesson, students will describe a dramatic experience. First, the context will be constructed with the help of pictures, then students will listen for the main idea to expose the TL, and then they will study useful vocabulary by listening, and then they will tell their own dramatic experiences in pairs.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of describing a dramatic experience.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review in listening of story lexis in the context of experience.
  • To provide clarification and practice of common verbs in stories in the context of dramatic experience.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Ss look at the pictures on the book and guess what happened to Megan in their groups. T takes w/c feedback.

Exposure / Listening for the Main Idea (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Ss listen the track 1.38 to check if their guesses are correct or not, and answer the questions in exercise 1b individually. Ss discuss the answers in their groups, t hangs answer key on the walls, ss walk around and check their answers in groups. T takes w/c feedback, and shows examples of narrative tenses on the board and keeps those examples on the WB during the whole lesson to create a background for the speaking activity.

Useful Language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss listen the track again to complete the sentences from the story with the verbs given in exercise 2. Ss check their answers in their groups, t shows the answers on the board while taking w/c feedback. T asks CCQ to make the meaning clear.

Productive Task (16-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The ss think about a dramatic or traumatic event they have experienced. T helps ss to brainstorm and writes ss' ideas on WB. They get ready to tell their stories in three minutes. They rehearse telling their stories in pairs. T mingles the class so everybody has a new partner. Pairs tell their stories and they ask Wh questions to each other. T monitors and takes notes while the students are talking to each other.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T takes w/c feedback first on the content by nominating ss to tell about the most interesting stories and the form on WB by writing some sample sentences from ss' stories.
