In this lesson, students will learn how to use present simple tense - affirmative.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Simple Present - affirmative.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy in the context of Personal information
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about W in the context of Personal Information

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To go over some vocabulary from the previous lesson. To introduce students to the context which is " world of work" via them picture from the textbook.

Reading for gist (3-5 minutes) • to match the picture a, b and c with its text 1,2 and 3.

Before I start reading the text, I will ask students questions about the text for example: What can you see in the pictures? Where are they? the students are beginners and cannot read properly, I will read the texts aloud. First, text 1 and ask them which picture it matches. then I will read text 2 and text 3 consequently asking the students to match them to the pictures.

Reading for details (7-10 minutes) • To understand and answer questions about the text.

I will read the texts again and this time, students have to look for details to answer the question that follow the texts. Examples of questions are who is speaking? regarding to the following sentences 1: We're teachers. that were TC ( Tom and Christine)/ when they fineish answering, I will feedback through asking students to rephrase the sentences for example they have to answer like this: Tom and Christine are teachers.

Practice (3-5 minutes) • To practice present simple verbs.

I will ask to work in pairs to find all examples of the verbs " go, live and work" from the text book to draw their attention to the singular "s" rule. after he, she and it ad____ to the verb in the present simple tense.

Practice # 1 (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will give students handouts with a question: Choose the correct option, a or b. 1: a) I work in London. b) I works in London. first they have to check their answer with another partner and then checking answers will be with the whole class.

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To practice the present simple - affirmative

I will give them spoken example about me for example: I work in Saudi Arabia. I live in Mekkah and I work in Saudi British Centre. Students have to write sentences about themselves and practice them with their partners. then they work with a new student. talk about their partner/ for example: He/She lives in.....
