Description

In this lesson student will learn about adverts of rooms/flats through a means based on a reading and listening text about rent.The lessons starts with a discussion about rent, then students read and relate stories about adverts for rooms to rent.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading, listening practice using a text about adverts of rooms in the context of rents.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of some lexical words in the context of rentals.

Procedure

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I will start by using an advert in a picture flash card placed on the white board, then put them in group and ask the student to read the adverts of rooms and flats to rent in the handout and i will ask some few CCQ questions to get feed back on meaning and help them where they find it difficult

Task (8-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I'II put students in a group then focus their attention on the adverts of things that are very important in a room in the handout, giving them time to find the words of expressions to match the definitions. Also gives example to show the meaning of any that cause difficulty.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

I'II start by eliciting some of the word the student may find difficult to understand by using a grade language to clarify the meaning and form and also drill the and marking them repeat after me. Example: Apartment, furnished, rent and lets

Listening Practice (8-10 minutes) • Listening for main idea/Checking Understanding

I'll focus student attention on the listening conversation of a lady calling for a room to rent.Then I'II try to make them listen or main ideas and ask them to match the questions to the correct answers in the handout.

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher commences the lesson by writing the word Rent on the WB. Then try to elicit the word by talking about a friend who is coming to live in Istanbul and will rent an apartment/room of his choice.Then put the students in pair and ask them what are the possible information or things they will like a room/flat to have before renting.
