In this lesson, Ss learn about the present perfect tense through the guided discovery approach. First of all they do listening and then they do speaking. After that, they practice the TL through a variety of exercises

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of present perfect in the context of achievements and time expressions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about achievements in the context of present perfect
  • To provide accuracy in the context of present perfect

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows to the Ss Aminata's picture and tells them to guess what she has achieved. T takes FB

Listening task (7-10 minutes) • To get Ss exposed to the TL

T asks the Ss to answer ex 1. T takes FB and after that T gives the HO to Ss and tells them to listen again and answer the questions of ex 2 and then ex 3 and then takes FB

TL focus 1 (8-10 minutes) • To get the meaning of the TL

T writes some sentences on the board to elicit the meaning of the tense. Then, T asks Ss to answer ex 4 and 5

TL focus 2 (5-7 minutes) • To get the form of the TL

T writes the form of the TL on the board and checks Ss understanding and then practices the pronunciation of the TL

TL focus 4 (6-8 minutes) • To practice the TL

T asks the Ss to answer ex 6 and then takes FB and then asks Ss to answer ex 7 and then takes FB

If time extra-TL focus (2-5 minutes) • To provide extra practice of the TL

T gives the Ss a HO of 3B and then takes FB
