Description

In this lesson, students will learn relationship verbs based on listening text about at the movies. The lesson starts with a discussion about relationships. This is fallowed by at the movies where students speak and listen and relate their relationship understanding.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide their listening of the book. By the end of the lesson students will have developed their skills of listening for gist and details in the context of the textbook.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will have developed their listening skills using the pre-taugt vocabulary in the context of their favorite movies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start to my lesson telling my favorite movie to the students then I will ask what's their favorite movie.

Vocabulary Pre-teaching (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will show them five different pictures. Then they will learn journalist, to get on well, to split up, and to carry on vocabularies. I will drill and elicit the words from the listening article and tell them repate the words.

Listening for Gist (2-5 minutes) • To listening the text really quickly for the first time to get a general idea

I will distribute handouts to the students and have them listen to a woman talking about the film in the poster below. I will give them five minutes to listen throug the first time. Then I will ask them what kind of film is it? I will have them work in pairs to complete listening . They will have some sort of task that they will complete. For the text, I am going to see if they can remember what they listen . I am going to give them about three minutes to complete this exercise with a partner.

Listening for Details (8-12 minutes) • To listen the text more carefully to find the details.

Have students listen the article once again for more detail. I will give them about the 8 minutes to listen again. Then will tell them put the events in the correct order. Then they should complete whole article box with a partner, and understanding article box. They will work in pairs.

Fallow-up (8-12 minutes) • To talk about their own experiences related to the subject.

Now, they will talk about their favourite films in a bit more detail. I will come up with a questionnaire, e.g.: What’s the name of the film? Who directed it? Who are the main characters? Who stars in the film? When and where is the film set? What is the plot of the film?, What do you think is the morale of the film? Why do you like it? Would you recommend watching it? . They will work in groups and I will give them about eight minutes to disscuss and share their answers as a class.
