To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of food
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
T. comes to the class eating something. She asks students : Do you like biscuits? I don't like ice cream what about you?
Teacher gives meaning of "food vocabulary" (bread, jam, crisp, juice, mushroom, pepper, olive, cheese, onion, sweetcorn, cheese, flour) through pictures. She asks students to repeat them. Teacher models pronunciation for Ss. She shows some pictures to Ss and sticks them on the board. Students use a/an or plural forms . She clarifies countable nouns in this way. The T shows some pictures such as tea, coffee, salt, flour, rice, bread. She explains U nouns. T examples : we can't say "a salt".. We can say "some salt"
Ss look at the pictures on the hand-out (appendix 2) and they group the words as C-U nouns. Then they check the answers in pairs. T. gives a blank chart to the sts in pairs they put the pictures in the right column. They check in pairs and then T gives WCFB.
Ss open their fridges in pairs and try to find what they need to make a pizza. They share thier ideas in pairs. "I need some eggs. I don't need any flour. There is some milk in the fridge." Board rush activity: T divides the class into groups. One of the S in the group reads the sentence aloud, the other S tries to find and bring the right picture.
T asks Ss to choose three ingredients from pictures and design their own pizza. Then they should tell about their pizza using singular /plural or some ie. "We put some sausages on our pizza base. There aren't any tomatoes on it." Then they stick their pizzas on the wall, each Ss sticks a star for his/her favourite pizza and gives a reason for it. The Ss who take more stars than the others will have a certificate to open their own restaurant.
