Description

in this lesson, Ss will be exposed to a vocabulary building exercise and a receptive skill exercise by listening for specific details to. After that, Ss will use the language they learned in the previous exercises in a productive skill with a speaking task.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency in speaking about dos and don'ts

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading for gist and detailed listening practice to learn vocabulary.

Procedure

warm-up (3-5 minutes) • Introduce the topic

Show Ss pictures of books titled "How to...." Elicit answers about what these books talk about. Elicit the meaning of "dos and don'ts".

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • Prepare the Ss for the listening and reading task.

-Ask the Ss "Which of the following tips you need to know?" -Give the Ss 1 minute to read the topics. -Ask CCQ's. -Elicit answers.

READING (5-7 minutes) • Provide some new vocabulary they will need in the speaking task.

-Put the Ss in pairs and give them time read the tips. -Guess the words or phrases which can go in gaps. - Ask ICQ's -In pairs, the Ss check their answers. -Give FB and hand out the Answer key.

LISTENING (5-7 minutes) • Provide new vocabulary they will need in the speaking task.

- Ask Ss to listen and check the answers. - In pairs, Ss check the answers. -Hand out Answer key.

SPEAKING (15-20 minutes) • Encourage Ss to talk about tips on 'How to...'

-In ex.1 pg.65, set Ss in groups. -Give Ss time to choose a topic. -In ex.1 a , groups make at least five dos and don'ts for the topic they have chosen. -Mention the "useful language" box and give instructions how to use it. -In ex.2, SS form new groups and tell about the list of tips they have discussed in their old groups. -In ex.3, sit SS in their first groups again, choose the best pieces of advice on each topic. -Elicit ideas from each group.
