Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Learning English in the context of CELTA

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Subjects in the context of CELTA


Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show picture and have them guess what it is about.

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will pre-teach vocabulary words that may hinder the students' ability to complete the task efficiently.

Gist Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask students to quickly read the article without analyzing the complete text so as to provide them with an idea of what the article is about.

Detailed Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will then ask students to take a little more time to read the article and gain a deeper understanding of the text.

Productive Task (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will then have student complete a task which serves to expand on what they read in a more creative and responsive way.
