Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in reading for gist and detail in the context of online frienships

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of online friendships
  • To provide clarification and practice of collocations in the context of using the Internet

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T sticks some pictures on the WB and tells Ss to think about what they might mean

Pre-speaking task (2-4 minutes) • To check the Ss understanding of the difficult words

T explains the words 'blog' and 'socialising' to Ss

Speaking (3-5 minutes) • To let Ss exchange ideas about the topic of the lesson

T asks Ss to answer and discuss the Qs in ex 1 and then after that T takes FB by asking the Ss what was the answer of their partner

Post speaking (3-5 minutes) • To make Ss practice the verb-noun collocations of the internet expressions

T asks Ss to turn the sheet of paper to its back and answer ex 3 after that T takes FB from the Ss and tells them where is the answer key

Pre-reading task 1 (3-5 minutes) • To check the Ss understanding of the difficult words

T explains to the Ss the difficult words in the article

Pre-reading task 2 (3-5 minutes) • To make Ss motivated to read the text and get the general idea of it

T asks Ss to answer the Qs about the title of ex 2a and say what they think about it. T asks Ss to write what they think on the WB.

While-reading task 1 (3-5 minutes) • To make Ss get the general idea of the text

T asks Ss to skim the text to get the general idea and find whether what they have written on the WB is true or not and them compare their answers with their group. in the end, T takes FB and checks whether Ss understood the text and whether they have got any words that blocked their understanding

While-reading task 2 (5-7 minutes) • To make Ss do detailed reading

T asks Ss to read the text and answer the Qs in ex 3. T takes FB and tells each group to go to a particular spot in the class to check their answers

Post-reading task (3-5 minutes) • To build plenty of STT and check their understanding of the text

T asks the Ss to talk about the questions in ex 4. T monitors and correct some Ss speaking mistakes, if necessary

If time post-speaking task (2-3 minutes) • To correct Ss errors

If time, T does some delayed error correction
