Description

This lesson continues with the same context as the previous and focuses on some of the language from the reading text. Some of the SS may know some of the TL, but some of it might be new.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of modal verbs of speculation in the context of future online and life changes.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of the future online and life changes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To focus the SS on the TL

-T writes down the question "What will you do if you can't use internet for a week?" on the board and gives a few sample answers "I will be bored", "I might not stay at home", "I could go for a walk" -T asks SS to work in groups and discuss. -T asks SS to choose the best sentence in their groups. -T takes FB from WC.

Pre-Stage. Grammar point (5-6 minutes) • To provide clarification and practice of modal verbs in the context of future

-T reads one example "If you can't see someone's face.. this will influence your understanding of what's going on" from the activity and asks them "Am I sure about this or is this a possibility?" T asks CCQs (what are you doing?) -If Ss give incorrect answer - T gives them one more example and gives out HO -SS work in groups. -T gives out the answer-key.

While Stage. Focus on Pronunciation (2-3 minutes) • To practice pronunciation in the context of future.

-T plays the CD track 1.13. -SS drill the sentences in order to correct their pronunciation.

While Stage. Clarification (2-3 minutes) • To practiice TL

-T mixes up the group by using names of colours "red", "blue", "green" and "yellow" -T shows the execise and gives instructions. -Tchecks their understanding by asking CCQs "What are you doing?" If SS don't give the correct answer -T writes down one example "Perhaps I'll get a new computer next year. (might). I might get a new computer" on the board. -SS will do peer-checking and then get the answer-key from T.

While Stage. Speaking practice (8-10 minutes) • To practice speaking

SS will stay in their groups "yellow", "green", "red" and "blue". -T gives instructions, demos -T draws four squares on the board. -T gives out cut up phrases. SS will work in groups. the aim of the game is to finish first and get the most correct answers. 0T gives out cut up phrases to each group. one SS from each group come out and put the paper in the appropriate square. They take turns until the last phrase. -T gives WCF

While Stage. If-Time activity (7-8 minutes) • To practice TL

-T is infront of the class. -T shows SS what activity is it and gives instructions. -T checks SS's understanding by using CCQs (What are you doing?, do you need to write?). If SS don't understand the intructions -T reads the question "Honey bees do a song and dance..? -T asks SS is it "a"(to tell other bees here food cn be found) or "b"(to create a sense of unity in the bee community)? -T gives out handouts, -T tells them to work in groups. -T writes down the answer-keys on the board.

Post Stage. Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To practice theTL

-T regroups SS into A, B and C -T gives instructions and gives out handouts -SS work in groups, the group which completes first is the winner. -T gives WCF on task -T does delayed error correction, as necessary.
