Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed in the context of super heroes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows a picture of Hugo to the students. The teacher asks the name of the super hero to the students and then that if they know the super hero. Then the teacher asks the students if they have super hero they like. After that, they start talking about their super heroes. At the last stage, the teacher wants them to guess the topic of the today s lesson.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher gives the handouts to the students. On the handouts, there are different super heroes and their information is available on the text. Then they start reading the text on their own. They do it separately because it has been designed in such a way.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

At this stage, the students try to match the pictures with the super heroes . Basically, they have the text, the names of the super heroes and the pictures of the heroes. For this activity, they have to work together in pairs. After that, since this is a pair activity, they stand up, and they check each others answers. If they have any wrong answers, they talk to each other in the target language, which is English, and they correct each other.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

At this particular stage, the students have the comprehension questions. Again, they work together on the comprehension questions and answer the questions. It needs to be a pair work.
