Description

In this lesson, students will exercise there listening skills within the context of good communication. They will listen to different people using different methods of communication. They will end this lesson with a short speaking exercise.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about Good communication in the context of Keeping in touch

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Debate in the context of Communication

Procedure

Warm in (4-5 minutes) • Get the students interested

Hold the HO up so the class can see it. Ask SS what different types of communication methods they can see. Allow them to discuss this alone in their groups as I walk around showing the HO closer to them. Repeat the phrase "keeping in touch" twice. Let them think about it for half a minute. Then ask students what they belive this phrase means.

Listening task (4-5 minutes) • SS practice their listening skills.

Explain to the students they are going to listen to two conversations. Ask them to listen carefully. Then in groups discuss with each other what methods of communication are talked about and what the peoples thoughts are of them.

Listening task 2 (4-5 minutes) • Check understanding

Get the students to listen to the conversations again. Explain to them this time they are going to answer true/false questions on each conversation. After they have completed this task. Move the students swiftly on to exercise 4. Regroup them by this point so they can share ideas with new students.

Vocabulary (4-5 minutes) • Introduce new Vocabulary

Explain the 6 sentences they heard on the audio, ask students which people said which sentence. Explain these phrases are used to express opinions and can be used in everyday conversation. Tell them I use these at least one of these phrases daily. Then get them to complete 5.b in their groups.

Pronounciation (4-5 minutes) • Help students pronounce difficult words correctly

T chooses 3 sentences that students may struggle with. Draw attention to the stress on these sentences and explain the phonetic language of some of the words in these sentences. Use CCQ to ensure the students have understood meanings of some of these words.

Speaking (3-5 minutes) • Get students practicing what they have learnt in conversation.

Tell students that they are to discuss in groups what there best method of communication is, encourage students to use the phrases they have learnt today.

If time, phrases (3-4 minutes) • Get the students using the phrases learnt today

T will use flashcards with the end of sentences, students will need to complete the begining of the sentence using the phrases they learnt in exercise 5a.
