Description

In this lesson sts will be introduced to the plural questions and short answers of the verb "be".They begin with a review on the reading they had in the last lesson and they follow this up with exercises in which they will choose the correct form of the verb "be" in order to differentiate the appropriate use of the verb. subsequently, they will be shown how to change this form to turn sentences into questions, thereby learning how to produce short answers. Sts will be doing a great deal of SS interaction over the activities the teacher will set up.

Procedure

Review (3-5 minutes) • To elicit plural form of be and create my context.

First students are shown a picture of Sally and Dan and the following questions will be asked: 1. Where are Sally and Dan? (Where are they) 2. What do Sally and Dan say about Moscow? Beautiful or ugly? 3. What do they say about people? two slimy faces will be drawn on the WB illustrating happy and angry.and the answer will be elicited. 4. Is Moscow hot? No it ........ It is .......... 5. What about the restaurants? (showing the universal gesticulation for money.) 6. Are they in the streets? Are they in an apartment or are they at a hotel? 7. Are the rooms nice? big?

Pre-teaching grammar (5-8 minutes) • To create the context to teach the verb "be" in plural questions and short answers.

- Show them Fiona and Nick's photo. - Start this stage by writing examples on the WB, using the picture of Fiona and Nick: 1. They are/is Fiona And Nick's friends. 2. Fiona and Dan is/are happy. 3. They are/is in Istanbul.. - Put them in groups of two. - Having given the instructions hand out the sheets. - Ask further ICQ for what sts are going to do. - Give them 3 Minuets to do the activity. - Monitor the process. - Check the answers by randomly choosing a student..

Pre-teaching Grammar 2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide sts with the form, pronunciation and practice of the plural "be" and short answers.

T gets the sts to do exercise 10. sts check the answers in groups of two. T corrects sts if only needed.

Presenting Grammar (2-4 minutes) • To introduce the question form of "be" and its short answers and to show the Wh question and how it is different

- The teacher writes on the WB sentences from exercise 11 and elicits from the students are and the short answers. - The teacher gets the sts to repeat the questions and short answers. - Then the next two wh questions are written on the WB and T will elicit are again. - T shows the sts how the answers to these two questions are different.

Practice the grammar (10-15 minutes) • To give students a chance to use the grammar practically in both written and spoken language.

- T will set up groups of three ( seems to be a good idea to change sts places). - T will show the same email from exercise 9 - T gives the students a separate sheets for students to write their questions. - T will get the sts to make as many questions as the can using the email's information - T now gets the email back and gets the students to now ask and answer the questions they have written.

Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To make sure sts have fully understood how plural "be" and the short answers are formed as well as the wh question and its answer

-The teacher introduces the activity by demonstrating it. - In this activity sts will be given a table of names and the countries and cities these people are from.The sts need to ask and answer the questions in pairs. - The teacher finally will check the answers with students.
