To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about descriptive adjectives in the context of travelling
Procedure (40-52 minutes)
The teacher starts the lesson in a very excited mood, she pretends to be in a hurry with excitement. The aim is to create curiosity among Ss. Then the T tells the Ss that her friend is coming to Bursa for a week and she wants to preapare a trip plan for him. She puts Smileys on the board (each Smiley represents an adjective) then she hands out 2 different sets of Bursa pictures to two groups and asks them to put the picture under the appropriate smiley.
Once the Ss are done , she starts eliciting the words. For ex. Mountain view of Bursa is ........ (fantastic) Then she puts a plus next to that picture. After she elicits each word she applies CCQs to clariy the meaning.After choral and individual drilling and pronunciation activities , T check Ss' understanding via memory /matching game
T tells students that her friend Jack has a girlfriend , and his girlfriend Jackie loves travelling too. The T explains that Jackie was in Cairo in January and she shows the pictures. She hands out the pictures into two groups and asks them to put a tick if there is a hotel in those pictures etc.
Ss are asked to look at pictures. T asks them to put the pictures in the order they hear. This activity is done in two groups and T swaps the groups and asks for peer check.
T teachers draws a chart on the board and writes the nouns they heard in the listening activity. Then the teacher divides the class into 2 groups and asks Ss to put the correct adjective for that noun. For ex. The food - delicious.
Ss are asked to have dialogs about their last holiday. The teacher explains the activity via modelling. She hands out the dialogues with the missing adjective parts. Students fill the gaps acording to their last holiday experiences.
