Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy in using the lesson's vocabularies and present simple tense.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

A WC activity is going to be the lead in. SS are going to make a circle, then T is going to whisper a word in one of the SS ear e.x businessman, lives, and father in turns SS are going to whisper it in their colleagues' ears in a row. Before sitting each S is going to pick a colored shape, then group themselves depending on that shape.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-11 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

SS are going to be five groups. At that time T is going to start her ECDW. The first is going to be 'opinion'. It is going to be explained by realia and miming depending on three watches. e.x: In my opinion this watch is fine. Teacher is going to include it's fine, it's a problem, it's not a problem and it's right. The previous words are at the same field,so SS will not take long time to learn them. The second word is going to be illustrated depending on some students of the classroom. e.x: He is handsome. The third word is going to be taught by a photo since it is a castle. The fourth word is parents. SS are going to learn it by describing it. The last one is going to be known by role play and realia, using T's ring to show that T's married. Then working in pairs SS are going to make sentences using the previous vocabularies.

Extra work before reading activity (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Before reading SS still have time to learn the vocabularies. SS are Going to be lined up in two groups. The instructions are going to be as the following T is going to write the learnt vocabularies on the board then ask each ten SS to line up alone, providing the leader of the group with a board eraser to erase the word that she/he hears from the T, then pass the board cleaner to his friend and go to the end of the line.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T is going to write the following questions on the board and ask SS to work in pairs to discuss the following them: "How old are people when they leave the family home?" "How old are people when they get married?" One of their answer is going to be written on the board and read as a back chaining work. T is going to HO the R papers and ask SS to read silently for a gist for two minutes. While reading, students will be listening to slow music. Then T asks SS about their opinions concerning this person using present simple.

Post-Reading/Listening (7-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

SS are going to be handed the last piece of reading in order to answer the text's questions. The answers will be checked by moving their head high for positive answers and down for negative ones. Later on SS are going to work in pairs be with gathered photos on the computer using the projector and encouraging the SS to make sentences about themselves.
