Description

In this lesson, ss learn about the hypothetical possibility with if through guided discovery based on a reading about a survey about British people. The lesson start with a discussion about people in the future. This is followed by a reading where students read and relate to behaviors of British people. There is a controlled practice through a sentence completion and free practice in the form of a final role- play speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1-Set context by showing ss a picture of a man stealing office supplies and asking them what do they think he is doing and if they would do the same. 2- How socially responsible are you survey? ask ss to talk in groups of 4 about items on the list and if they would do them. Why? Why not? 3- One ss from each group reports to the whole class

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

1- Pre-teach income and drink-drive using picture and a context situation. 2- Explain that the article gives the results of a survey about how British people would behave in different situations 3-In groups of 3, ss discuss the possible results of the same survey in Tunisia. What would be different in Tunisia? Feedback: one ss from each group reports to the whole class.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1- Ask ss to read the text again and underline the verbs. 2- Ask ss what they noticed about the verbs.

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: - Ask ss: Do the sentences in the text describe a real future situation or an imaginary one? - Explain that we often talk about hypothetical situations using if. - Ask ss to find a sentence in the text with if. - Drill for pronunciation - Ask ss: Which tense is used after if? Past Does this describe things that happened in the past? no (present imaginary situation) Form: - Project 2 sentences on the board and highlight form. Pronunciation - Lable stressed parts of sentences.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

A- Ask ss to do EX 8 SB First, go through difficult vocb and model first answer. - ss check ansers in pairs -Feedback: go through problem areas teacher noticed while monitoring (spelling of tried etc..) then give answer key. B- ss do part B of EX 2 check answers in pairs Feedback whole class.

Free Practice (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1- Pair ss up and ask them to role play questions and answers from EX2 2- Ask SS to think of different answers to the questions and role play. 3- Give ss 2 minutes to think of 3 different questions and ask them to go around the room and ask them to people. Go around monitoring and giving support. Round up by correcting errors related to TL.
