To provide practice for reading for gist and reading for specific information
To provide practice in using the target language for students by preparing a poster about their last birthday and presenting it to the class
Procedure (34-40 minutes)
*Greet the students *Start talking about my birthday and show the PowerPoint about my last birthday
*Hang up the enlarged pictures from the text and ask questions to get the students involved.
*Students read the text *Teacher asks general questions about the text. Eg. How old is the boy? What was his presents? What was his favourite present? Did hid father gave him the pet frog?
*Students are asked to read the text again and complete the sentences *Students get into pairs and check their answers *Class check for the answers
*Teacher shows the poster she prepared earlier about her last birthday *Teacher asks students to think about their last birthday and prepare a poster where they have to draw and colour themselves and their presents.
*Students present their poster to the class using the target language Eg. This is my birthday. I'm 44 years old. I have got a watch from my dad and a hat from my sister. I have got two books from my brother and a beautiful cat from my mother. I love my cat. It is my favourite present.
