Teaching Practice 2
To provide clarification of past simple tense in the context of school
To practice speaking while using ' past simple tense '
Procedure (43-48 minutes)
Students fill in the chart in Grammar1 with the past simple forms of verbs, then they check their answers by reading the tape-script and finding the correct forms of the target language. Teacher asks students for the correct answers and writes them on board.
Teacher focuses on different verb groups from the previous activity by underlining the main verbs and circling the past simple endings to show how we form different verb groups. Students work in pairs to do exercise Grammar2 in order to decide which verb belongs to which group ( a, b, c, d ? )and then students give their answers to teacher.
Teacher writes a positive, a negative and two question forms of the same phrase and focuses on the relationship between the verb forms and the auxiliary ' did '.
Students work in pairs/groups to do exercise Grammar3 and students check answers with the teacher as an open class activity.
Students change their pairs or groups and fill in the questionnaires provided by teacher and then talk about their answers.
