In this lesson, Ss leearn about holiday vocabulary through gist & detailed reading activities. The lesson starts with lead-in part. This is followed by pairwork and reading through pre-reading, while reading and post reading activities. Finally, there is a speaking activity through discussion.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Holiday Heaven in the context of Holiday

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of holiday


Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss try to find the word "advanture holiday" through hangman game. They llike playing games so the activity will help them to engage in .

Pre-Reading/Listening (11-13 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

* T sticks holiday types on the board. *Ss will match pictures and the holiday styles. *After they complete this task, they will match activities with the holiday types. * Then T changes the groups and students will check the answers. * T introduces vocabulary through pictures. *Ss will practice pronunciation through repetition and modelling.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Reading for gist: read the text quickly and match the pictures with the holiday types. Read in detail: read the text again in detail decide if they are true or false give reasons for false sentences check in pairs/ check from answer key

Post-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

*T asks "which of these holiday types don't interest you /why? Discuss in pairs. *information gap: (Holiday Plans) * In pairs, sit back to back *ask questions to your partner *listen to his/her answer *write the answers on your information table *take turns *check your answers with your pair/check from answer key. EXTRA ACTIVITY: Instructions: You have just come home after going on one of the holidays from the web page on p:50. You should imagine what it was like and think of 5 great things that happened, 2 bad things, 1 near disaster. *work individually, complete your chart *stick your papers on the wall. *read the papers, choose the best one, put a tick on the paper which you like the most. *explain why you liked it. (to expand the activity they can write positive/negative comments on a website about their hotel. ) Taboo Game: (if we have time)T gives Ss some pieces of papers that forbidden words are written. Ss try to tell the key word without using forbidden words.
