In this lesson students will learn Wh and yes /no questions of simple past tense and they will do some speaking by using these forms.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the simple past tense in the context of weather

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation by asking and answering Wh and Yes/No questions


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks' what comes into your mind when I say storm chasing' Ss say the answers and T writes them on the board.T says' I have many thing to learn from storm chasing.What questions can I ask? Ss give the answers.'What,Why,Who,When,Where,How' T makes drilling.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T tells students to look at the text which was given last lesson.T tells students to underline the question forms and after they underline,T asks Ss to find the different one.Ss say 'did'. T say 'how many options do we have when we ask?Ss say two.T asks CCQs 1)Is it about time or place?(place) 2)Is it about people?(yes)

Highlighting,clarification (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives students some question forms and T wants Ss to elcit the form of WH and Yes/No questions.

Clarification (2-3 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

After the students do the form T writes on the board and does choral and individual dirlling.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives Ss a handout which asks Ss to make WH questions about storm chasing and students choose the correct answer to become aware of the right usage of the verbs.T monitors and gives feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T gives half of the class answers and half of them questions .Ss tries to find their anwers.T divides the class into two groups and gives WH questions T reads the sentences and the Ss finds the correct WH question. Ss will ask about their partner's day out.activity.Then students with their partners will create their own stone chasing activity and they will do personalization.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will play a dice game by asking WH questions to each other.
