Description

In this lesson, students practice reading skills.The lesson starts with engaging the students into the context. This is followed by some vocabulary practice. Then the students read the text for gist and then in details and do the required activities. Finally the students practice fluency speaking with a discussion about the places they would like to travel.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets the ss. Then he talks about travelling and tells that he likes travelling a lot. After that, in pairs ss discuss about if they like travelling and the places they have been to so far.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T puts some pictures on the board and ss try to figure out what these pictures are. T divides the class into two groups and hands out the word cards. Then the sudents match these words with the pictures and stick the words under the correct pictures. After that, T swaps the groups and have ss compare their answers with each other. Following this, T asks ss if they have any of these in their home town. Ss discuss the question with their partners.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows the picture of Vancouver and ask what it might be. Then he puts three pictures of some people on the board. After that ss read a text about Vancouver and find out who the information is for. Following this, the students discuss their answers with their partners.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss read the text in a more detailed way and find out which places suit to what kind of people. After finishing, the students compare their answers in pairs.Following this ss complete the given phrases according to the text.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The ss find the synonms of the words given from the previous exercise then ss check their answers in pairs. After this activity ss make a discussion about the places they would like to go and the things they would like to do there.
