Materials

Main Aims

To develop students'skills of reading for gist, reading for details and reading for spesific information in the context of an articles reading

Subsidiary Aims

To revise Past Simple positive and negative irregular and regular verb forms
To revise vocabulary items related to 'Holiday" discussion

Procedure (30-42 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T: 1.Close your eyes, relax and imagine that you are on holiday. What do you see? Now, open your eyes. 2. Look at the board. "Holiday" - What do you usually do on holiday? Students give variants and teacher writes down them on the board. 3. Now think about your last holiday. Did you go to the restaurant? - Teacher provides grammar structure on the board and students start discussing their last holiday.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading

Now look at your handout. You have 3 texts from the Holiday Magazine. Read the texts and answer the question: "Were people happy or not after their holiday?. We have 2 minutes for reading. ICQ: M. what will you do now? Elena: What question should you answer? T: Read the text and find out. Peer-checking. Discussion Whole-class checking.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with reading for specific information tasks

T:Now we know that these people were unhappy with their holiday because they were in the right place, but in the wrong time. So your next task is to read the text again and match the pictures with the text. Read and circle the word that proves your choice. ICQ:A, what should you do now? Check with your partner. Check with the whole class.

While-reading task # 3 (7-10 minutes) • To develop reading for detail skill

T: Now turn your page and look at Ex. # 2b. Please read the task. Now look at the sentences. Read the text again and fill in the gaps. Now discuss your answers with your peer. Peer correction - discussion. Whole-class checking - discussion.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to analyse Past simple verb forms from the text
