She gets them to say the year. Teacher sets the first example with a well-known person to make the structure together with the year clear. Then she gets sts to write Atatürk next to the year 1881 on their previous list of year HO as they are going to use that list to guess when the upcoming famous people were born. Then a photo of another famous person is shown. After they are asked who that person is, a sentence saying ‘Ajda Pekkan was born ___ ______’ with a missing part is shown, teacher asks students to make guesses when she was born from the list of year. After eliciting the right answer, she gets sts to reapeat it as a sentence. She does the same thing with another famous person.

Controlled Practice (9-11 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Starting with the fourth famous person on the ppt, she not olny asks sts to guess the year but also asks them to form the whole sentence. As ‘was born’ part is written in a different colour in the previous slides, it is highligted indirectly. She uses her fingers to show that they are supposed to say five words in total to form the sentence. Teacher does the same procedure with the other famous people to get them to practice not only saying the year but also ‘was born’ structure. After 7 famous people in total are practised in the same way, she just shows the photos of those famous people and gets them to say the whole sentences. On this stage, remembering the year is not going to be difficult since they will have written the names next to the year on their list.
