Description

In this lesson, the students will learn how to use 'Do you like...?' and ' Would you like...?' in the context of food and drinks. First I will start with setting the context ( food and drinks they like/ don't like ) . Then I will ask them what would they like They will practice saying Would you like? Yes, please. No, thanks before listening to a conversation . After that, students will do some speaking practice.I will highlight and clarify the TL Finally, for the controlled speaking the students will practice the conversation and for the semi-controlled speaking students will do a waiter customers dialogue at the restaurant using the TL

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a vocabulary of ordinal numbers in the context of dates
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a do you like and would you like in the context of food and drink

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening practice using a conversation about do you like and would you like in the context of food and drink

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows the Ss food cards,spreads them on the tables and says I like apples. I don't like nuts. T asks ss what food they like and don't like. then call them to come to the board and stick food cards under the smiley cards ( like#dislike ) T says: Would you like an apple? ss yes, please. No, thank you.

Exposure (8-12 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

* ss read and listen to the conversation between Piers and Daisy's mum ( T 9.2 ) * Tdemonstrates dialogue ex.1 *ss practice dialogue ex.1

Useful Language (8-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

* T clarifies the difference between do you like and would you like through a guided discovery * T elicits answers from ss . T asks ss Which one means Do you want / I want would you like means do you want / i'd like means I want . *T asks questions to ss : ( guided discovery questions ) When do we use some? in question When do we use any? in questions and in negatives Do we use some with countable and uncountable nouns? with plural and uncountable nouns

Productive Task(s) (8-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Controlled practice : *T shows ss a skeleton dialogue and demonstrate the speaking task. * ss practice speaking using the TL Semi-controlled practice: * Ss practice speaking the TL through a dialogue ( waiter- customers )

Feedback and Error Correction (2-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will monitor and take note of Ss errors when using the TL and correct them.
