In this lesson students will be practising speaking in the context of things they cannot live without.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ss will have practised speaking in the context of things they cannot live without.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ss will have practised speaking to identify, introduce and describe objects they cannot live without.

Procedure

Lead in (5-5 minutes) • To set a context and interest students

- Teacher to put a one minute you tub evideo about two girls naming 3 things they cannot live without - teacher to ask Ss if they liked it, if it is easy and if they can give a title to the video - the teacher moves to next activity

Pre-teaching vocabulary (5-5 minutes) • Prepare student for to listening and speaking activities

- T to elicit the following words: ( have) a sentimental value: teacher to set a context and give a life example and realia. CCQ : do things have sentimental value because they worth lots of money? remind you of something: go back to realia, and same context CCQ: do i think about my father yes? Ornament: T to show picture of Christmas tree, ask for another word for decoration T gives the answer if no one knows and CCQ, DO ornaments serve for other purposes beside decoration? no Where else we can find ornaments? living rooms, garden...etc

Receptive skills: Listening activity (15-15 minutes) • Students to listen for specific information

- T explains to students that we are moving to a listening activity - Teacher gives handouts and gives instructions - T demonstrates by doing the first one with the students -T explains that they will hear the recording only once and when they finish they should check in pairs - T asks studenst to go and collect answer key from above the coffee machine - T asks for feedback ( linguistic / human )

Productive Skill: Semi free activity - Speeking (20-20 minutes) • To get students to relate to the topic and talk about things they cannot live without.

Activity 1: - T asks students to look at task 1 - T explains instructions and ICQ: List of 5 things they cannot live without - Some students can name the top one item ( If time allows) Activity 2: - T asks students to look at task 2 - Teacher gives instructions and gives students 3 minutes to think - T puts on the WB the "useful language" for students to use in their speaking activity Activity 3: - T asks students to talk in small groups about objects on their lists and ask each others questions - T to demonstrate and do few sentences - T to monitor and take notes - If time allows we can hear some students - T to give feedback as relevant ( Last 3 minutes)
