Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of verb Collocation in the context of weddings

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about an email sent as a wedding invitation in the context of Wedding

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will chat with students, ask them if they have any sisters or brothers. If yes, are they married? and lead the conversation to marriage and weddings. Then T will show some realia ( Turkish red wedding veil) , Magnet ( bride and groom ) , wedding invitation card . Teacher will then ask sts to talk about their traditions during weddings ( this will be good opportunity to introduce words like rent a / stay in / get to / book a ) T : Feliz : If two people decided to get married , what do they do? Where do the friends stay if they attended the wedding? Where is it usually held ( girls village, reception hall in a ?hotel etc) What do people arrange for ( honey moon destination, flight booking , rent a hotel room etc....)

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will write the word " Watch & Listen" and list the words that used with them to elicit " the meaning of collocation". Then T will introduce " Stay with - book a - rent a - get to " T will elicit the difference in meaning between book and book a, by highlighting that one a is a noun and the other is a verb. Stay mean to live somewhere with some people temporarily Rent a = means to pay an amount of money for a period of time to use something that belongs to some one else Get to = reach and not obtain. Teacher will drill " book a flight " = buka fligh = /bʊka/ Teacher will also drill question using " can i ..." ken i / answer : yes you can. Ex : Selma ask Salih to come to the wedding Selma asks : Saleh ken ya come to the wedding ( not can you come to ...) Salih : yes i can / cannot

Exposure through reading (5-8 minutes) • Gist reading

T will point to the realia (magnet bride and groom) to elicit the meaning and checking if the students know the vocabulary. T will hand out one email. By this stage students have learned the new vocabulary . T will ask sts to take 2 minutes to read Email one. T will give a gist task to the students: 1)can you tell me who wrote the email? 2) Who was it sent to? 3)Who is getting married? Then teacher will ask students to tick the true correct sentences from exercise 1b. Students check their answers in pairs. T will write feedback on the board

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will ask students to check the email once again and underline verb collocation. T will introduce email 2. Students read. Teacher will give another gist task? 1.What is the subject of the email? T will ask again : underline verb collocation in the second email. Students will check their answers in pair Feedback = nominating

Domino Game Free Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

This game is called Dominos.Teacher will hand out each pair and equal set of verb collocation on paper cut slips, one student will choose the beginning of a sentence while his partner looks for the rest of the sentence in his slips collection. The aim of the game is to make meaning full sentences using verb collocations. The winner will be the one who finishes his Dominos first. Instructions 1 - T will seat the students in pairs 2 - T will hand equal amount of slips to each student. 3- T will instruct ( don't show to your friend ) 4- T will ICQ ( will you share with your friend ?) 5- T will model the game , then ask ICQ 6- T will give them the rule ( if you dont make a meaning full sentence, it will be the turn of your friend) - followed by ICQs 7- T will say the one who finishes his dominoes finish. followed by ICQ
