Description

In this lesson students will be introduced to the basic concepts of the subject. Teacher sets the ground rules. Teacher will try to establish rapport with the class. The context of this class is football and more specifically football coaches' effective half-time speeches.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*Teacher starts a talk about football assuming that students are fond of football. *Teacher shows 4 pictures of famous managers (1. Alex Ferguson 2. Fabio Capello 3. Jose Mourinho 4. Fatih Terim ) *Teacher asks their favorite football teams and coaches. *This lessons context is pep talk( motivational speech during half-time) Teacher shows a short video clip which explains what is pep talk. and then teacher shows a pep talk of Jose Mourinho on Youtube. Teacher shows some pictures of famous coaches.

Pre-writing/ Lexis (4-5 minutes) • To provide necessary vocab for the context.

There are slips of some new vocab and their definitions. First students match the definitions on their own and then check their answers with their partners. Once students are done, teacher distributes answer keys so that students can check their answers.

Sample readings from the course book (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify the difference between interesting and uninteresting texts.

Teacher asks students to read for themselves the examples in the course book and compare the impact of the texts on players. In the next stage, students will produce their own texts.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students have to write a speech of a coach whose team is losing 2-0 . The coach has to give an effective speech, so that he can motivate players for the second half. Students have to write a paragraph of 75-100 words. Once the students are done, they will do peer-checking. On papers there will be students and the proofreaders' name, so that teacher can see the mistakes of students. And have an idea about the level of the classroom.

Extra vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • Improving lexis in the target language

Students have to come up with similar insults that the coach used in the book. *Insults You bunch of spoiled, overpriced, excessively useless fake kickers
