Superheroes: The Real Spiderman
Intermediate B1 - B2 level
Reading Skills: To provide SS with a pre-reading task to scan the text for the gist. Next, SS will skim read the text again for details in the while reading task in order to prepare SS for the post activity writing and speaking.
Productive skills: To provide speaking and writing practice for SS in order to prepare them for their creation of their superhero. Afterwards, SS will share their (speaking) story with other groups and decide which group created the best superhero.
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
T will show a few pictures to activate and engage SS. Next, T will do a word scramble activity on the WB to elicit and pre-teach vocabulary MFP. T will instruct SS on how to play the game and how much time (90 seconds). ICQ's What are you doing? How do you play? How much time? Word stress on coma, rope, equipment and skyscraper
T will instruct SS to scan the text for general information and answer questions a-e, (3 minutes). (PW) check their answers with the answer key.
T will instruct SS to skim the text again for details and answer questions 1-6. Next, (PW) share their answers. T will have the answers posted up outside for SS to check. CCQ"s Does he climb buildings? Does he climb without protection?
T will introduce a new activity, name that super hero. T will have a list of super hero names (eg. Hulk, Spiderman, Batman...etc.), T will nominate one student at a time to come up and use word clues to elicit their peers answers. Once a few names are up, T will do CCQ's about the character so SS will know the characteristics of a super hero ( super power/super strength/speed, can fly, x-ray vision...etc.)
T will put SS into (GW), each group will create their own superhero using the terminology from unit. Each group will have 7 minutes to write 4-5 sentences that will best describe their superhero. Next, the Teacher will pair a member of each group with another. Each (GW) will decide who has the best superhero.
