Reading Lesson. Jobs
Practice reading for gist and for specific information with the text in which a call-centre employee describes her job.
To provide clarification, review and practice of job related vocabulary in the context of speaking about the things the students think are important in a job.
Procedure (38-48 minutes)
Show the picture of a call centre and elicit the word and activate the schemata by asking questions about call centres.
Students read through the text quickly to find out if Rjeshwari is happy about her job as a call centre worker.
Students read the text in more details to find answers to the questions. Peer-check, then check with the whole class. Clarify the vocab: "shifts", "to hire/to employ", "salary".
Students work in pairs to range the sentences describing jobs. Choose the Top 5 they think are important. Elicit the Top 3 during the class feedback.
Students work in groups to find out who in their group is the happiest about their job and why .
