Description

In this lesson students will practice their gist and scan reading sub-skills along with the comparative adjectives.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading activities to the ss.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To present the comperative adjectives and form of the comparisons to the ss.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • By using the pictures the new vocabulary covered in one lesson before will be elicited for the comparative form

T shows pictures to the students and ask yes no questions to get the comparative form of the adjective and the structure of the comparisons. T will highlight the language and prepare the class for the next lesson. Cover the parts in the exercise 5 and give the HOs to the students.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • Students will be asked questions to prepare them to the gist task.

T asks the ss "Think and guess about what are the 6 things you can do in these places?" Remember the use of "go sightseeing" "go to beach"

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist task

-Give students three minutes to choose the holiday place and then ask them to tell their friends why they chose that place. and then they will tell why their friend chose to go that place. They can take notes what their friends said to them. -Ss will read the text again and will find the false sentence used with comparison.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Write a short paragraph where do you want to go for a holiday? What can you do there? And compare that place by using adjectives such as "cold" "dangerous" etc. given in the vocabulary part.

Emergency Activity (5-8 minutes) • Controlled Practice for Comparative forms

Students will be distributed HOs as cut ups and they will try to prepare comparative sentences accordingly.
