Listening for vocabulary and descriptive adjectives

Description

Ss will be introduced adjectives in the context of workplaces.T puts a city map on the WB and puts the pictures of buildings in the city map then puts the buildings on the map teach the adjectives. After that,T provides gist and a detailed task.Lesson finishes with the follow up tasks.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T reflects a city map on the WB. T asks 'Where are we now'. Ss say 'school' and T sticks the picture of a school on the map and asks Ss to discuss with their partners which workplaces they know. T asks some ICQ s. 1.'Will you write or speak?'(speak)2.'Will you speak with your partners?' (Yes). After discussing T gets the answers and sticks the other workplaces on the map. After,T asks 'How do I feel?' with a happy voice and Ss say 'happy'. T shows the other adjectives and tries to get some answers whether they know them or not and T sticks the adjectives on the board. T asks CCQs.First T shows boring and asks Am I happy? (no) Is he friendly or not? (friendly) .T shows unfriendly and asks Is he friendly? (no) T makes choral and individual drillings.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T tells the Ss to listen to a recording and after listening asks them to discuss with their partner the questions wtitten on the board.1)How many speakers are there in the audio? 2)Where are they? In this activity T changes the pairs.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T tells that they will listen and match the names with the sentences. After Ss finish the matching activity they will check with their partners. T gives the handouts and asks ICQs 1)Will you match or write? (match) 2)Will you check with your partner or not) (check with partner)

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T gives Ss red and blue cards.Ss listen to the recording again and show the blue card when they hear workplaces and red card with the adjectives.T gives the cards and asks ICQs 1)Will you show red card when you hear an adjective? (yes)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T gives students Ss the picture and the spellings of the adjectives.T tells Ss to match them with their pairs and T asks other group to check the activiy. T asks ICQs 1)Will you match or tick?(match) 2)Will you do it in pairs? (Yes) If T has spare time, T hangs the pictures of the workşngplaces around and asks studetns to write adjectives on the pictures.
