Description

This is a lesson based on the video about a tiny apartment of a very creative owner Christian Schallert who made a lego-style design suitable for comfortable living.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of tiny appartments design

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about a small apartment in the context of authentic video

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

A short pair discussion on where the students live and whether they like their homes.

Pre-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss discuss in pairs and fill in the table on fuctions of different rooms and whether they need them. Ss dicuss which of the following might they live without: water, shower, stove, fridge, plates, microwave oven, dishwasher, mirror, table, bed, sofa.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with gist information listening tasks

Watch the video. What does ‘action apartment’ mean?

While-Listening #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with scanning listening tasks

Watch the video again. Note down everything he’s got in his apartment. Check in pairs.

Post-Reading/Listening (15-18 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In groups of 3-4, students discuss the question: Would you like to live in such apartment? Why? In groups of 3-4 students describe their dream home.
