Embarrassing Situations, Past Continuous Tense

Description

In this lesson, Ss practice TL using Past Continuous Tense. The lesson starta with a past mime activity. This is followed by semi-controlled speaking activity where the students ask questions each other. Finally Ss discuss some embarrassing situations.

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of embar

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students work in pairs. Each pair is given a past continuous + past simple sentence (Sbdy was doing when sbdy did).Each member of pairs mimes its sentence and the partner tries to guess it.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Starting with an experience and focusing on the list. Matching lists to the titles and adding new situations.Discussing the most embarrassing situation. Sharing some of them with the rest of the class.

Guided Practice (5-7 minutes)

Each of the students is given a specific time paper and they ask questions about these times . (e.g. Whar were you doing at this time yesterday?).

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Drawing a card and making past continuous sentences considering the pictures on the cards. These sentences will be the answer of "What were you doing at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon? "
