Description

In this lesson the students will learn writing thier favourite cities . The lesson starts with a open class discussion about famous cities in the world . This is followed by pre- teaching some topic related key vocabulary.Then , showing the students an example of a paragraph ( guided writing ) . After that students will write individually about their favourite cities. Finally, the students will edit their writings ( ss-ss editing ) and then ss will read each others' writings and choose the best one )

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a a covering letter in the context of work - applying for a job
  • To provide process writing practice of a paragraph in the context of favourite city

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about a covering letter in the context of applying for a job
  • To provide practice of words in the context of describing one's favourite city.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the students names of famous cities ( eg London-Paris- Rio de Jenero, etc ) made with wordlie.net and ask them : what are these?cities what's your favourite one ( s ) ? Why do people go to these places /cities?

Pre-teach vocabulary (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with some key vocabulary expected in coming task ( guided writing ).

1- I will pre- teach vocabulary : MPF Using visuals for meaning Drill for pronunciation ( stress ) Highlight on the board the form 1-field ( n ) 2 – mountain (n ) 3- park ( n) 4- museum ( n ) 5- port ( n) 6- cathedral (n ) 7- Building ( n ) 8- river (n ) 9- lake ( n ) 2- I will show the students the map of Tunisia and ask them : where do you see ---- mountains----- in Tunisia? 3- I will ask them to come to the board and place them on the map 4- I will give the ss a follow up task ( gap-fill task ) : Ss will fill in gaps with TL

Reading task (5-10 minutes) • To provide the students with a model of a model of the text type useful for the productive skill ( guided writing )

1- I will show the students a model of the text type which will help them with the writing task

writing task (10-15 minutes) • To provide ss with an opportunity to practice writing a paragraph about their favourite cities

I will give ss half piece of paper ( A5 ) to write on. Editing: Ss will edit and error correct their writing in pairs. Final product : I will stick their piece of writings all around the room .Ask them to read each others' writings and choose the best one. ( reading for purpose )

Feedback and Error Correction (2-5 minutes) • to correct Ss errors

I will correct ss common errors on the board
