Description

This language focus lesson is designed to present and practice the lexical set related with days, months, and dates and to enable students use the TL as they speak. The lesson will include visuals, controlled and semi-controlled activities in order to make students use the TL accurately. In addition, listening and drilling activities will help students to learn the pronunciation of the TL. The students will be encouraged to ask and answer questions via pair work in order to use the TL.

Main Aims

  • Vocabulary: To present and practice the lexical set related with days, months, and dates and to enable students use the TL as they speak.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Listening and Speaking: To make Ss practice their listening skills as they listen to conversations about dates and also to make students improve their speaking skills via asking and answering questions.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To introduce Ss the main context of TL

The main context is days, months and dates. - T will stick flash cards of months on WB randomly. CCQ: What are these? - Months. CCQ: Can you put them in order? - Ss will come to WB and put the flash cards in order. - T will stick flash cards of seasons on WB in order. - T will ask Ss to put 3 months under the seasons. Winter - Dec. - Jan. - Feb. Spring - Mar. - Apr. - May Summer - Jun. - Jul. - Aug. Autumn - Sep. - Oct. - Nov. - Drilling of months and seasons will be made.

Vocabulary: speaking practice of "months" (3-5 minutes) • To make sure that Ss remember the names of the months

In order to make Ss use the names of the months while they are speaking, a simple game will be played. A student will say a month, and S's pair will say the next two months. Example: - January --> February and March - August --> September and October

Vocabulary: dates (6-8 minutes) • To present and practice the ordinal numbers

- T will distribute HO (ordinal numbers no.1) - T will draw a picture on WB to make Ss understand the meaning of first, second and third. - T will play the recording no.8.9. - T will play the same recording but this time T will pause the recording after each ordinal number and make students repeat. - T will distribute the matching exercise and give Ss 1 min. to answer. - Peer check and WC feedback will be made.

Pre-Listening: speaking practice of ordinal numbers (5-6 minutes) • To make sure that Ss remember the ordinal numbers

- T will distribute HOs (material: ordinal numbers no.3) - Ss will say the numbers on HO aloud to their peer -T will play the recording no.8.10 - after each number T will pause the recording and WC drilling will be made - T will distribute HOs which consist of ordinal numbers till 100 - (material: ordinal number no.2) - Drilling of some ordinal numbers will be made

Listening: Dates (8-10 minutes) • To make Ss improve their listening skills in the context of dates

- T will distribute HOs that include the questions related with days and dates. - HOs will be folded, and T will elicit answers from Ss -HOs will be unfolded, and T will point out some details from answers - the use of "on" and "the" is important. - T will distribute the questions from p.66 - Ss will listen to conversations and circle the right date mentioned in the recording. - Peer check and WC feedback will be made

Production of TL (8-10 minutes) • Production and Practice of TL via pair work

- Students will be given the second part of the material "Days and Dates". - The HOs will be folded. -T teacher will give 1 min. to Ss to check the HOs . Teacher will try to elicit four questions and answers of from Ss. - T will tell Ss to unfold the paper, and T will tell Ss to write five days in numbers and to say the dates and write them down with their pairs.
