Description

In this lesson, students will be practicing their receptive skills listening for specific information on computer viruses. Also understanding the vocabulary through a word meaning match. Finally there is some freer practice where students have to imagine themselves as if they were the cartoon character in the video they saw at the beginning of the lesson and first speak about it in groups then write a short paragraph about their reaction when they were faced with such a problem.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about computer viruses

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of words that are used when someone's computer is infected with a virus.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation about computer viruses.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T will play a short cartoon video for students. - T asks students what they think today's lesson is on? - T gives students two short questions placing students in pairs to discuss the questions

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T gives students a word meaning match activity, place students in pairs and have them match the meanings - T then gives students the answer sheet and students check their answers. - T then writes words on the board asks students what is the word of speech and where is the stress -T then drills words

Controlled Practice (15-25 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T places students in groups - T gives students the cut outs - T tell students in groups and that they will have to listen for specific information and match the answers in A to the facts in B. -T asks ICQ's. What are we listening for? What do we put together? -T plays recording twice. - T writes answers on the board by randomly picking students and asking them their answers. - T gives students the next exercise and students again will be listening for specific information but this time working by themselves. -T plays recording twice -T then has students cheak their answers in pairs -T asks students randomly the answers they wrote

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T tells Students they have to imagine themselves as if they were the cartoon character in the video they saw at the beginning of the lesson -T places students in groups and tell them to first speak then write a short paragraph about How they would react when they were faced with such a problem. - T then has someone from each group read the paragraph.
