Subsidiary Aims

  • To raise their understanding about the use of prefix 'mis-' and improve their productive skill, speaking, with a discussion.

Procedure

Pre-listening task (5-10 minutes) • To give sts clear information about the words before the listening part

*Make 6 groups *Give each group the example to talk about. -Give sts 1 minute to discuss *Then, they'll read the stories and the others will guess the words that represent the situation. *By asking questions, try to elicit the words. ex:mispronounce= What did she do during the meeting ? misquote= Did the st write correct line in the exam?

While Listening Task (2-4 minutes) • To engage the sts more with the vocabulary

*They will listen 6 examples, simple and short dialogues or sections. *They will try to match the speakers with the verbs.

Post Listening Task (5-10 minutes) • To check their understanding about the vocabulary

*Write the sentences one by one on the board. *Choose one of the sts and askm him/her to answer. *Then he/she will choose the other person to do the second sentence. *While answering, I'll ask CCQ to check if they understand the meaning.

Video about mispronounciation (3-6 minutes) • To prepare the students for debate

*Watch the video and then ask; "What are the two common mistakes people do when they are learning a foreign language?" *They will discuss this and then together.

Debate (10-15 minutes) • Discuss more about the words 'misspelling' and 'mispronounciation'

I will ask; -Why do we do these mistakes? -Is it possible to correct our mistakes permanently? Can we pronounce the words in the same way natives do? *And the debate topic is; "While learning a foreign language which one is worse, misspelling or mispronounciation?"
