Description

In this lesson students will be recycling the use of the definite/indefinite or zero articles (a/an/the/-.) They will do practice exercise and answer questions using the articles. They will do further practice by working in pairs and asking each other questions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will give sts examples of the use of articles a/an/the. Sts will fill the gaps for the following: a) We've got a new car, he lives in an apartment in a big city. b) he's a politician, she's a teacher, I'm an artist. c) it's the capital city, it's in the city centre, it's on the right.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students practice the use of articles throughout gap-fill exercise.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T raises sts awareness on the use of the articles which they have studies in their previous lesson. T asks the sts to write the examples for the use of articles which they have learnt today in their books.

Clarification (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T checks the pronunciation of the new questions and answers.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives out HO1 Practice 1 ( Cutting Edge P46) and asks the students to complete the gaps with a/an, the or no word. Sts to do self-check from answer sheet which is stuck on the wall. T asks sts if they have any questions.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks students to write the answers of the questions (Exercise 2) on p46 Cutting Edge using a phrase with a/an, the zero or no word.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students to work in pairs and interview each other. Every student is to say 1 sentence about their partner.
