Description

In this lesson, students will be mainly practicing listening skills to find out specific information about announcements at the airport.They will be looking at Karen's itinerary answering questions and learning new vocabulary. Then they will be able to create their own itinerary and practice the target language.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about a travel itinerary.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of phrases used in the the airport and their meanings.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Fast introduction by showing images to students . Asking questions what do you think we are talking about today? Have them look at the images tell me what they see ? What do they think the people are doing ? What are they holding ? Where do you think their going?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Have students look at the ''at the airport'' questions. Give them a set time to answer to answer it. Give students table chart with the same questions they answered this time asking their friends mingling and speaking the target language. We will have open group discussions asking them did you and did you find.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Give students the handout, have them look at the itinerary. Drill itinerary and look at the vocabulary on the travel itinerary. Give them exercise 1 and set a time have them look for the specific information. Randomly pick students to answer.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Have students look at exercise 2 vocabulary and complete. Then work in pairs discuss answers then have them write it on the board. Drill the vocabulary.

Controlled Practice (4-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be doing a listening task where they have to listen to the announcement and answer the questions.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Have students work in groups and do a work match .Have students make students make an itinerary for May. Then have them in pairs someone who works at the airport and some who is traveling and in pairs speak the target language, then keep changing pairs.
