Reading '' Return of Martin Guerre''

Description

In this lesson students will practise receptive skill reading ( subskill reading for gist and reading for details). Lesson will be preluded with lead-in activity with semi-controlled type of practise. Post-reading will be focused on productive skills both writing and speaking, based on semi-controlled type of practise.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask students If they know movie titled :''Return of Martin Guerre'' Teacher will put on the WB 4 pictures; village, villagers, trial, and hang up of the witch. Teacher will ask about the pictures what do we have on the pictures. Teacher will say that those pictures are connected to plot of the movie. Teacher will ask students to guess what this movie can be about? what is the plot of the movie? Teacher will ask students to work in pairs. Whole group FB.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher will ask continue pre-teaching of vocabulary Teacher will pre-teach the word ''imposter'' by showing a picture of two raccoon and one cat. Cat just pretends to be raccoon. Teacher will ask CQs questions: Is he a raccoon? No Is he pretending to be? Yes Can he be a raccoon? No Drilling and writing on the board. Teacher will show Picture no 1 with little girl. Teacher will say that she has blond hair, blue eyes, and black dot on the iris. When we talk about.....we say how somebody looks like. Teacher will drill the word and show stress. Teacher will show 2nd picture with the same girl missing. Teacher will explain that when somebody disappear its somebody's disappearance. Teacher will pre-teach word trial. Teacher will say a story about somebody who commits a crime .The police catches him and put him into jail. Then he is waiting for his trial. During the trial he has lawyer and he meets the judge etc.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Teacher will ask students to read text about The return of Martin Guerre. Text will be not in order . Teacher will ask students to read and put paragraphs in order. After that we will check in pairs and then WCFB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading

Then teacher will ask students to Read a story again and complete the sentences. (exercise 3) After this students will check it in pairs. WCFB. Teacher will gibe to students adapted questions from exercises no 4. Teache rwill ask students to answer questions in pairs.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-14 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher will ask students to think, write and then speak about these questions: How would change the last the last scene of the movie? After this teacher will ask students to work in a pairs and first answer question in pairs and then have brief discussion on subjects: How do you think a person can change in 8 years? If you didn't see your partner/family member/best friend for 8 years, would you recognise him/her when she/he returned? Do you think that kind of crime deserves death penalty? Anybody strongly disagree? Do you think somebody who is imposter must be super intelligent? What kind of features of character must have somebody who is imposter?
