Description

In this lesson, students will learn about present progressive, meaning, form and pronunciation , and the way to use it. Students will know as well the difference between present simple and present progressive.

Procedure

Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • listening for specific information

- T will show the Ss 2 photos and will ask: Where are they ? (Tom is at home and Sue is at work) Are they busy? ( Sue is busy, but not Tom) - T will tell the students that they will listen to an audio and will explain to the Ss that they will put the sentences they hear in the correct order. Then, she will write or show on the board the phone conversation: Oh, hi . Tom . Look, I'm busy just now. Ok, fine. Bye. Can I call you later? Hello, Sue Morris here. 1 Hi, Sue. It's Tom. - T will explain : -just now= exactly now -call= phone - later = not now - T will play the audio so Ss check their answers in pairs. - T will play another audio and will ask the Ss to underline the the sentences they hear.

Exposure (7-10 minutes) • To prepare learners for more meaningful practice

-The T delivers the gap-fill exercise handouts. The Ss are given a couple of minutes to -complete the task. - Ss will chick their answers (peer checking) - T will draw a timeline to explain the present progressive. then will give examples of simple present and present progressive : - present progressive: I'm, We're ...+verb+ -ing go --> I'm going have --> we're having cook --> she's cooking - T will ask the students about the form she used, T will drill some words - T will write 2 sentences on the board and will ask the students which sentence mean : 1- often or every day? 2- just now? ( We usually have breakfast at 8:30 - We're having our breakfast. Can I call you later?

Revision and Practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide the Ss with controlled practice of the target language.

-T will give the Ss a HO to practice writing the verbs in present progressive in pairs. - Ss will practice speaking : - T will ask the students to choose one of the shown pictures on the board. and to have a phone call conversation. T will ask the students to: 1-say where are you and why you're busy? 2- say you'll call again.

More Practicing (if there is time) (10-15 minutes) • to draw attention to the topic

- T will explain how to write questions in present progressive: - T will write a sentence on the board : I am playing. then will ask the Ss to ask a question Ans:Am I playing? - T will show the handout and will explain to the students that they should write questions. - Ss will check their works in pairs - if there will be extra time, T will give the Ss to put the verbs in present progressive form.
