Description

In this class i will introduce sts to the exponents of recommendation and give them the chance to practice what they've learned through an exercise and an activity. In the class they will be exposed to certain phrases ex. how to recommend things to others (+ / - ), how to reply and how to ask for advice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for giving and asking for advice in the context of travel (expose sts to exponents of recommendations in the context of travel )

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop speaking skills in context of recommendations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • Recap what they listened to in the previous lesson

T will draw a stick man and a woman with a cloud shape on top to elicit that one is remembering and the other is thinking about the Taj Mahal in India . Then T will ask students some of these questions , until Sts figure it out 1.Who do they think the stick man and woman are? 2.What did they talk about ? 3.Who went to India? 4.Who is going to India ? 5.Can you remember a question Michael asked ? 6.Can you remember a suggestion Ellen gave? The point of the warm up is to be able to recap what Michael from the text was asking Ellen. T will write the questions and answers on the board and move on to the next stage of the lesson plan : Explanation

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

After writing the questions and answers. T will underline the words used when asking for advice and the words used when giving advice . Then T will ask students " what was Michael doing" and "what was Elen doing ", hoping the students will answer ( asking for advice / giving advice). Once this is established. I will move on to explaining to them the difference between must and should through asking questions. Why did Ellen say you must go to Agra? Why did Ellen say you should see the Red Fort? What do you think she wanted to say ? What if Michael didn't take her advice ?

Controlled Practice (8-11 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will hand sts with an exercise where they will be asked to fill in the blanks. Then i will nominate 2 students to read the solved exercise ( conversation between two people) I will nominate in total 6 students as the conversation exercises is divided into three parts

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

T will hand students Travel Advice sheet, gives instruction on how to fill the sheet, then T will ask sts to work alone. they have 7 min to think and write . Then while they are working they will be assigned a number from 1-3 . T will group students according to the number and ask one student in the group to read her some of her sentences to the group. rest of her group member must guess what was the city or region she wrote about . Students take turns

Task 2 ( 4 min) • To ensure sts understood the lesson

I will cut paper written on it key words for asking , giving and replying to recommendation to the the student s Student should stick the papers on the board according their category ( dont bother with , is a reply, that if very helpful is an answer , what is the best .... question ) Students will work either in groups or pairs and then nominate a runner to solve it on the board
