To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about about famous people.
To provide clarification and practice of new words from the text.
Procedure (31-44 minutes)
The SS will be given a text about my likes and dislikes. They will all find one of the following in the text '' really love, love, like, quite like, don't mind, hate , really hate .That they learnt from the last lessons. Giving them a set time. Giving them instructions to look at the information and find the the specific words. Pick SS randomly to tell me one like and one dislike. This will be an introduction and a warmer for them to practice gist reading and remember what they did in the last lesson.
Have students in two groups group A and group B . Have them look at the word/meaning match, giving them a set time. They change groups and look at each others answers . Then have SS make sentences using those words to see if they understand the vocabulary. Then randomly pick SS to read their sentences.
Have images of Madonna and Catherine Zeta jones on the projector. Asking students CCQs : Who do they think these people are ? Are they famous people? Is she a singer ? Is she a actor? Are they both famous people ? Do you think their both married ? Do you think they both have children ?
Give students the handout and give them a set time ,to find out where each person comes from and where they live ? Working on gist reading. Then have open class feedback. SS will look at exercise 3a and answer the questions. have them look at the vocabulary they learnt. They will compare their answers in pairs .
Divide the class into groups. Have group A look at Madonna and group B look at Catherine zeta Jones. Give them a question paper that they have to check. For example Madonna has a american husband? She does have an american husband or she doesn't have an american husband . Then students exchange answers and check. then we have open class feedback.
